Flamed Apple Breakfast Bowl
This is one of my favourite weekend bowls, but during some rough weeks it’s also been a mid-week pick-me-up breakfast bowl. When I first saw Daniel flaming the apples for this bowl, I admit I freaked out. I wasn’t prepared for the huge flame. I personally am too scared to flame the apples myself, I would for sure sound the fire alarm and end up with burnt hair. So this recipe comes with a big disclaimer, be cautious, don’t have your face too close to the pan and make sure you feel comfortable. If you’ve never flamed something before, highly recommend making this with someone who has for the first time. Luckily there’s a non-alcoholic, non-flaming version of this bowl as well which is just as tasty. Check out the recipe below, and again be careful if you decide to try flaming! Can you tell I’m not a fan of fire? I am a huge fan of this breakfast bowl though!
Ingredients: old fashioned rolled oats, bananas, apples, cinnamon, 1 tablespoon of brown sugar, 2 tablespoons of butter and 1 shot of rum OR substitute ¼ cup of orange or apple juice instead of rum
Make the old fashioned rolled oats according to the packaging.
Slice the apples, brown them in a pan with two tablespoons of butter and the brown sugar on medium-high heat. Once the sugar melts, add the rum to the pan and flame. If you are not comfortable with flaming the apples, substitute the alcohol with orange or apple juice and keep on the stove until the liquid reduces.
Fill a bowl with cooked oats and top with sliced bananas, the flamed apples, a pinch of cinnamon and a sprinkle of chia seeds. Enjoy!
